Discipleship Groups

Definition (What a Discipleship GROUP is...)

Discipleship Groups are an "official" ministry of South Point Church.

What we mean by "official" is that we are committed to the ministry of our Discipleship Groups and we will work hard to equip, resource and provide leadership for each group to help assure its success.

Discipleship Groups are a group of 6 to 8 people of the same gender who commit for an entire ministry year to meet together weekly for equipping, accountability, community, Bible study and outreach.

Explanation (What a Discipleship Group looks like...)

Discipleship Groups are the primary place for Christian maturity & equipping at South Point Presbyterian Church.

This may not always be the case as our church grows and we add ministries like Sunday school, etc. Not everyone who considers SPC their church home will be actively involved in a Discipleship Group. It is our goal that the leaders at SPC would be active in the discipleship process.

Goals (What Discipleship Groups hope to accomplish...)

Ephesians 4:11-16

"11And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love."

Leadership (What is the leadership suppose to do? How are they going to do it?)

1) Equip the saints (vs. 12)

2) For the work of ministry (vs. 12)

3) Building up the body (vs. 12)

4) Speaking the truth in love (vs. 15)
